HOSTED BY Beth Popham
ALONG THE TRAIL This show is essentially a visual log of Beth Popham's journey back to art after a long teaching career. Although many of her paintings are landscapes or street scenes, Beth enjoys shifting focus to the beauty that resides along the edge of the trail, remembering William Blake’s hope that we not lose the ability “to see Heaven in a wildflower, and eternity in a grain of sand.” Whether in botanical studies, portraiture and life drawing, or landscapes, Beth is drawn to the elegance of shape and line. Her favourite subjects could be called “micro-landscapes” or “natural abstracts”. Beth works primarily in acrylics – sometimes combined with pen and ink – and photographic decoupage. The inspiration for many of her paintings comes from en plein air outings and long walks with her trusty Canon Rebel T7i. Beth will be on location at APFTA on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday May 22. |

HOSTED BY Group Show
OUTSIDE THE LINES The title of the June exhibition “Outside the Lines” is also the name of the group of six artists exhibiting their work. The group came together some years ago with the intention of learning from each other, exchanging ideas and critiquing each others’ art in hopes of moving beyond their past successes and opening their minds to new possibilities of process, style and media. The wish was to move outside of the conventional and to look at art with fresh eyes and open imaginations.
This exhibition displays their individual styles and diverse interests. You will see a range from Naturalism to Impressionism through to Abstraction. Examples can be found in the landscapes, still life art, portraits and non-objective works. The unifying element is a strong love of colour. This group was founded by Lakefield artist Donna Bolam whose goal was to pursue artistic exploration with fellow painters. The members of Outside the Lines are Donna Bolam, Theresa Morris, Marilyn Simpson, Ann Talbot, Margaret Tough and Randy Woods. Artists from the group will be on location at APFTA on Saturday, June 4th, Sunday, June 5th and Sunday, June 12th. |

HOSTED BY Lois Shaw
NATURE OF GLASS The Nature of Glass combines my love of painting with a new medium for me, glass fusing. Fusing glass is an incredible experience with an endless learning journey. There are so many directions glass fusing can take you. It allows you to experiment with a medium that can be unforgiving, at times have a mind of its own, and yet awe inspiring in some of the results can be achieved."

HOSTED BY Henry Melissa Gordon
ONCE WE WERE BIRDS Once We Were Birds symbolizes Henry Gordon’s journey as a long-time student of dreaming. These drawings and paintings explore dreaming as a dance between our collective human consciousness and our individual consciousness. Henry channels mysterious, layered images, allowing this process of artmaking to be ‘random but not random’ (the idea that every thought, feeling, and action is impactful, and comes from and returns to the vast web of interconnection). The images represent the Earth’s inhabitants in relationship as they continue to dream their shared past, present and future together. Henry draws also from a fascination with the process of unfathomable, unknowable cosmic evolution, as well as the small passing moments of each day. These images are visual poems. |
