MAY 2022
This show is essentially a visual log of Beth Popham's journey back to art after a long teaching career. Although many of her paintings are landscapes or street scenes, Beth enjoys shifting focus to the beauty that resides along the edge of the trail, remembering William Blake’s hope that we not lose the ability “to see Heaven in a wildflower, and eternity in a grain of sand.”
Whether in botanical studies, portraiture and life drawing, or landscapes, Beth is drawn to the elegance of shape and line. Her favourite subjects could be called “micro-landscapes” or “natural abstracts”. Beth works primarily in acrylics – sometimes combined with pen and ink – and photographic decoupage. The inspiration for many of her paintings comes from en plein air outings and long walks with her trusty Canon Rebel T7i. Beth will be on location at APFTA on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday May 22. |
