Heather Lawrie returned to creating as rehabilitation for a concussion. She began her journey felting and found the tactile nature very therapeutic. In 2013, Heather experienced Marta Mouka’s Botanical Printing, and instantly fell in love with using leaves and natural dyes to create prints on natural fibers.
The science of the dyes combined with the mystery of nature was captivating. Heather gained technical skills from a variety of textile artists worldwide to enable leaves to imprint on fabrics or paper.
Utilizing her degree in Applied Fashion Design from Toronto Metropolitan University, and 13 years of experience in the fashion industry, Heather creates garments, home décor, accessories and stationary.
At the Art Gallery of Bancroft’s Juried Show in 2018, 2022 and 2023 respectively, Heather earned Honourable Mention Fibre, Multimedia for her upcycled botanical printed linen dress, First Place for her Still Life, “Every Leaf a Hallelujah” and First Place for Abstract/Surrealist “Evening Sun”
Heather lives in Gilmour, an ideal location to explore nature and collect specimens for her art.
