Communications
What are you saying??? HOSTED BY Andrew Edgar OPENING RECEPTION Friday March 31st at 7:30 pm |
The North Hastings High School student art show hosted by a Place for the Arts is a sampling of artwork created by students throughout the school year. Students participating are from grades 9 through 12, ages 14-18.
While some of the works are independent activities (Created on the student's own time) most of the artwork is created as a result of an assignment. The underlying themes in art classes at North Hastings High School are designed to help develop an understanding that art can be used as a tool to communicate ideas and concepts that might otherwise require an essay to say.
Many of these Art pieces have been created in an effort to communicate ideas about juxtapositions, social issues and personal expressions. By using structures like the Elements and Principles of design/Art we achieve a common practice and language giving students and teacher alike a framework to create pieces that can potentially communicate ideas.

The Colour Factory
HOSTED BY Manuela Schmidlechner OPENING RECEPTION Saturday July 1st and Sunday July 2nd.
I paint in oil and acrylic on canvas. I find inspiration from colours, shimmering light and textures that are found in mother nature and man made structures. There are no solids in the world and I like to capture the movement, texture and colours from the world around me, whether it's mother nature, people or buildings. The focus of my pieces are all about colour, shape, movement and emotion - subject matter is not as relevant. I want the viewer to capture a feeling of being part of my pieces and evoking an emotion that is personal to their soul and spirit. |

Ontario's Four Seasons
HOSTED BY Ann Young and Marilyn BIshop Ontario’s four seasons are displayed in watercolour and oil and celebrate the variety and beauty of our natural landscape. As artists, we find inspiration at every time of the year - the subtle shades of late fall and early spring, as well as the glory of autumn leaves and the bright light of winter snow.
Anne’s pottery pieces are made in her country studio with nature as a guide to colours and patterns. Her practical creations are useful, as well as beautiful. Through our art we hope you will also see more of what surrounds us in Ontario and share our joy and love of nature through the eyes of the artists. |

Resinate
HOSTED BY Tricia van Oostveen OPENING RECEPTION Saturday October 7th from 11 am to 4 pm. By using a variety of media and styles, especially with RESIN, the paintings are a journey for me as I create and experiment with colour and form. I create unique colourful works of art that focus on light, movement and texture hoping to evoke emotions and feelings as we struggle with our relationship to the natural or spiritual world around us. The lighthearted approach of pouring paint onto canvas or tiles creates unique pieces that are abstract and colourful and become coasters, trivets, and paintings for the home. I hope to offer this journey of emotions to the viewer as they visually connect to my art. Come RESINATE with me! |

Highlands En Plein Air - Third Annual Exhibition
HOSTED BY John Christie This show will feature paintings, painted in the Highlands, by artists participating in the APFTA Plein Air Group events. Lean more about this group.
Painting outside is very different from painting in a sterile studio. Paint dries much faster or not at all depending on the weather, wind blows easels over, the light is constantly changing, and biting insects are a constant distraction. All these things affect the outcome of the painting. These challenges tend to make plein air paintings more alive and vibrant. |
