Nancy Simmons Smith creates two dimensional non-objective, abstract and figurative art.
On the figurative side of the practice Nancy's specialty is portraits - monochrome when she is capturing likeness, and more colourful for abstraction. During the pandemic she has been producing a series of caricatures with captions called COVID People.
Nancy’s non-objective paintings usually begin spontaneously and she works intuitively, burying and unearthing marks to explore surface, shape, colour, texture, and composition. More recently she has been exploring the relationship among simple shapes and volumes in drawings and paintings
Nancy is a member of the Women’s Art Association of Canada (Toronto), and Studio 201 in Peterborough. Her paintings and drawings are found in private collections from coast to coast in Canada and in the United States.
